Description: | The Forum for Environment for Ethiopia is finalizing preparations for a series of activities as part of the Major Groups national efforts for the World Summit on Sustainable Development. Based on its first meeting held on 4 April 2001, the Forum plans to:
Organize monthly meetings for NGOs and civil society. The issues to be raised were identified on 4 April, and are issues dear to Ethiopia. They will identify individuals / experts to present a paper on the issue selected for that month that will be followed by a debate. They are hoping that this process will feed in to the government process. At some point, maybe every six months, the discussions and the presentations will be compiled and documented.
Document and celebrate good practices of individuals, communities and institutions. The Forum is planning to do this mainly through high schools and interested NGOs. In the Summer of 2001, high school teachers from all over Ethiopia will be invited to participate in a two day workshop. This is to define the process and to train the teachers in documenting community experiences. The teachers will organize the documentation process in their school, which the Forum hopes will be done by students, and the papers will be compiled and published.
Organize the media and increase their awareness of Agenda 21 issues, This is to encourage them to highlight the issues raised during the monthly meetings and the documentation process.
